why this matters
A deposit does one job: it makes holding a date cost something, so a client who is not serious does not tie up a Saturday you could have booked twice over. Set it too low and cancellations cost you the date with nothing to show. Set it too high with no clear schedule behind it and a hesitant client books somewhere that explains its terms.
The right deposit moves with how much time you have to rebook. A cancellation 90 days out still gives you a real shot at filling the date. A cancellation two weeks out usually does not, so the schedule should reflect that difference instead of treating every cancellation the same.
the policy protects the date. sway makes sure the date was worth protecting.
